Dhangadhi is the main business centre of the Seti Zone. Dhangadhi is the major business hub for Far Western Region of Nepal and is the major provider of education, health and employment opportunities in the west Nepal.

Dhangadhi Airport : The airport resides at an elevation of 690 feet (210 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway which is 1,524 metres (5,000 ft) in length. The date of the first service was December 26, 1964.This airport has recently been extended and black topped to be able to accommodate bigger planes.

The city airport is located 10 km away from the administrative center, which is being extended so that to accommodate landing of Fokker 100. If extended, the airport will be second biggest in the country after TIA.Who choose this method of transport to reach the city will enjoy breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas, the Churia Mountain Range and the beautiful landscapes of the fertile Terai region. Dhangadhi lies around 660 kilometers west of Kathmandu. Dhangadhi municipality covers an area of 95 km2 and shares its boundary with Belapur V.D.C in the north, Mohana River in the south, Khutiya River in the east and Geta V.D.C in the south.

There are more than 100 lakes/pond in Dhangadhi, Kailali district of which Ghodaghodi Tal is the largest one. It is also the largest

lake in Terai belt of Nepal. It is located about 53 Km east of the Dhangadhi on the east-west high way. Darakh, Ram Shikhar and Sandepani VDCs border it. The geographically the lake lies at 28°41'03'' north latitude and 80°56'45''east latitude. The altitude of the lake is 205 m from the sea level. It is 4 meter deep and covers an area of 138 ha. It has a palm with 19 fingers shape. There are other 13 lakes in the surrounding areas. The total area of all these lakes is 248 ha.

Dhangadhi is a city in Far-Western Develpment of Nepal bordering India. It is the capital of Kailali District in the province of Seti.Located in the Far Western Region of Nepal on the border of India, the city of Dhangadhi is one of the entry points into the country for people traveling from India. It was established in 2033 B.S and is divided into 14 wards.

At the time of the 2001 Nepal census it had a population of 67,447 residing in 11,738 individual households among which 12% belong to the Dalit caste, 36% are ethnic minorities and the remaining 52% compose of Brahmins, Kshetris and other castes.The annual population growth rate of Dhangadhi municipality is 5.16%. .The current population of Dhangadhi is now estimated to have crossed 1 lakh. It is the largest city (9th biggest city of Nepal by population) in the Far-Western region of Nepal & has an area of 9,462.47 hectors. The city is well connected with other major cities of Nepal and the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.



As per the legend, there was a beautiful village in ancient time. The village converted into a lake after a nightlong terrestrial rain. The king of that area sent obedient he-horse first and then she-horse to inspect the area. Both of the horses died on the way without reaching the destination. The king thought that there exists some divine force and decided to construct a temple. The temple and the lake are named after the horses.

Thousand of the religious people visit the temple each year during Marga Panchami (November) and Maghe Sanskati (Janaury).The area is rich in natural bio-diversities. Thirty-four species of mammals, 29 species of the fishes, 32 species of he butterfly, 11 species of snails, 140 species of birds (9 out of them four are in endanger), 455 species of plants are reported from these areas. Being the international importance of the area, as per Ramsar international treaty.

His Majesty's Government of Nepal has requested to declare this area as protective swampy land.In addition, this area is located in between of the Bardia National Park and Shahi Shukla Phanta. This place could be an important tourist destination in the district.

Chisapani is located in the West Bank of Karnali River, which is around the middle (90 km) of district headquarters of Banke and Kailali 90km east of Dhangadhi and 90 km west of Nepalgung on the East-West highway.Because of cold water and delicious fish dishes, people prefer to visit this place. Rafting and boating sports can be introduced in the Karnali River and thus could be an excellent tourist destination tin the district.
